Community Update

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to everyone affected and express our sincere gratitude to those working tirelessly to bring a sense of normalcy back to our community. As Yancey County continues to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, we invite you to show your love for our community by visiting downtown Burnsville. Our local shops, galleries, restaurants, and taprooms are open and ready to welcome you. Our small businesses need your support now more than ever.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as some areas in Yancey County continue their recovery efforts. For everyone’s safety, please respect any closures and detours as we work hard to restore our beloved spaces.

Trail Network Update

Our beautiful trail network is currently being assessed, and we are excited to share updates on new openings. Carolina Hemlocks recreation area is now open for the 2025 season! The Blue Ridge Parkway in Yancey County including Mount Mitchell State Park remains closed. Thank you to the U.S. Forest Service, agencies, individuals, organizations, and countless volunteers for helping us recover, rebuild, and reopen.
