Discover wonders of the night sky at the Mayland Earth-to-Sky Park. The 34” Sam Scope is the largest public telescope in the Southeast dedicated for public use and research.

2. Take in the View from Mt. Mitchell, the Highest Peak East of the Mississippi

Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, this easily accessible paved trail offers a panoramic view of the Black MountainRange and Pisgah National Forest. Hikers will enjoy the variety of diverse trails.

3. Hike a section of the famed Appalachian Trail

In early Spring, the white blazed trail is lined with a burst of wildflower color, from painted trillium and Jack-in-the-pulpit, to gaywings and umbrella leaf. Be sure to pack water and snacks should you take the two-mile hike to the scenic High Rocks vista.

4. Stroll to Roaring Fork Falls

An easy half-mile walkleads to one of the area’s most beautiful waterfalls.Breathe deeply as you gaze at the meandering100-ft . cascade.
